What is Pinch Sitters?

— Pinch Sitters is a babysitting agency with over 25 years experience that provides on-call, temporary, occasional, and emergency childcare.

How does the service work?

–Parents register with the agency by giving information regarding the home (or location) and children.  Once registered, parents request a sitter via email or online or by calling 212-260-6005.  Sitters are matched to each booking by the agency according to the sitter’s experience and booking requirements.  The agency will send parents an email a day before the booking to reconfirm the booking and to give parents the sitter’s name.

Who are your sitters?

—  Currently, there are over 70 sitters on roster with the agency.  While they are varied in their interests and experience, they are all warm and experienced caregivers.  Each sitter is dependable, prompt, reliable, and responsible.  Each sitter brings the highest level of professionalism to each booking while giving children their devoted attention, energy and warmth.

In addition, all of the sitters have at least 3 years of childcare experience and at least 2 recent childcare references.  They are over the age of 21, American citizens (or have proper working/student papers) and are college educated.

How are sitters paid?

— At the end of each booking, sitters are paid $22/hour, with a 4 hour minimum.  After the 4 hour minimum, sitters are paid on the 1/2 hour ($11/half hour).  After 10pm, a $15 travel surcharge is added.  Clients are asked to pay their sitter in cash.  Receipts will be provided upon request.

What if I have to cancel?

–There is no fee if you cancel with more than 24 hours notice.  With less than 24 hours notice, the cancellation fee is $45.  With less than 2 hours notice, the minimum four hours is charged ($88).

What is the policy on tipping?

–Tipping is not required but always appreciated!  If you feel that your sitter went above and beyond, tipping is a way to show the sitter your thanks.

Can I check the sitter’s references?

–The agency does that for you!  As a part of the application process, each sitter completes an application with essay questions.  They are personally interviewed by the owner of the agency and they then submit to a full criminal and background check.  In addition, each sitter must provide at least 2 childcare references which are checked personally by the owner.

Can I pick my own sitter?

–You may always request a specific sitter! The more in advance you book a sitter, the better chance you have of reserving your favorite!  If you don’t have a specific request, the agency will match you with the perfect sitter!

Do the sitters do housekeeping as well?

–No.  The sitters are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and the children.  They are not required to do laundry, errands, cleaning, shopping, or pet care.

Do I have to feed the sitter?

–You are not required to buy the sitter meals.  However, if the sitter is working a long day or during lunch/dinner hours, we hope you understand that the sitter has to eat!  Sitters will bring/buy their own meals (unless requested not to).  Offering snacks or beverages is always appreciated!

Are the sitters CPR certified?

–Most of the sitters do have first aid training and CPR training.  You may request that your sitter has current CPR certification.
